Midterm: Photography

                    "Timeless"

For the midterm exhibit and portfolio, our task was to choose a theme and develop a photography project. Inspired by the beauty of nature, I selected 'Nature's Serenity' and incorporated a photograph captured during our memorable trip to Bohol.

In this video presentation, I discussed the issue of constructing a resort in the Chocolate Hills area. I highlighted the importance of preserving natural landscapes and ecosystems. The photo serves as proof that the unaltered view of the Chocolate Hills is more beautiful than when altered by just a resort.

Day 1

Day 2

On day 1, Michael Chris Loyogoy Almasco was the speaker, he is a VFX artist and a filmmaker. He first introduced the works that he has done, most are commercial edits and some are his personal projects. Next, he enumerates the kinds of VFX which are compositing, 3D, simulation and volume and defined them each. He then introduced different software that are commonly used by editors as well as companies. Lastly, he edited a clip using Adobe After Effects where he put fire in the background. When he showed the clips of his works, I was amazed because I oftentimes see them on the television and now, I know who made them. Whenever I see it, I always wonder how they did it, and now I realize how hard it can be. The basic editing of fire at the end of the webinar was a good introduction for After Effects since I don't have experience using it for VFX, just simple editing. Overall, it was an excellent webinar, I learned a lot about the industry of VFX in the Philippines and made me understand basic After Effects editing.

On day 2, the webinar was about graphic design and the speaker was Ivan Cabamongan; a video editor, graphic artist and photographer. He introduced different client projects; publication layouts, wedding and debuts photography, and video editing. He then differentiated graphic artist and graphic design, where he said art evokes emotion and design has a function. Next is a refresher for color theory and how colors have meanings. After that, he talked about typography and the difference between typeface and font, where typeface is the entire family of font and font is the member of a typeface. Different tips were explained in layouting. Then, he proceeded to discuss about design principles; contrast, balance, emphasis, repetition, and hierarchy. Design tips were also enumerated. This 2nd day was right up my alley since I’m into graphic design. The tips that he gave were very useful especially at the end where he said that it's okay to copy other people works, just put your own twist to it and every resource is within our reach because of internet. Overall, I learned a lot and will surely use all the topics in the future.
